![]() ![]() Is this realistic? No, not even remotely so. Just by looking at this, you can figure out what the weapon called ( Electric Rake), how to make it ( Leaf Rake + Battery) and how it works ( Stab zombies with the rake, electrocuting them). The other thing I feel that gets left out is the design of these tools of destruction. This is a part of the combo weapons I feel most people end up leaving out of discussions despite how important it is. Duct Tape is Chuck’s camera, and the weapons are his photos. Rather than using his journalist skills to level up, he uses his ingenuity to do so. ![]() With Frank being a photojournalist, it made sense for him to level up from making use of his natural skills. This is important when one thinks back to Dead Rising 1 where Frank could earn PP from taking good enough pictures. Yes, these weapons earn Chuck Prestige Points, the Dead Rising equivalent to Experience Points. These write down the recipe for the weapon, but Chuck won’t get as much PP from it and loses the ability to use its unique attacks. Rather if it comes from a guide, previous playthrough or just experimentation, Chuck can still build combo weapons and get a Scratch Card. However, just because Chuck doesn’t know how to build them doesn’t mean the player is completely locked out of the weapon. These adorable trading cards teach Chuck how to build and use combo weapons properly. Leveling up, saving survivors, defeating psychopaths, and just exploring Nevada’s fictional town will give Chuck Combo Cards. There are 49 ( wink wink) combo weapons to be made in the adult playground, and Chuck won’t need the players guide to learn the recipes. Good thing Chuck has that engineering degree. These can range from adding nails to a baseball bat to reverse engineering a cement saw to launch plates at lethal speeds. A roll of duct tape later and Chuck has a lethal combo-weapon. Once two compatible tools are found, he merely needs to bring them to a maintenance room (pictured above) and place them on the workbench. ![]() Chuck can find combo weapon materials all over the town of Fortune City since they’re all weapons he can use normally. So, Dead Rising 2 introduced the ability to combine weapons together on top of the concept of using anything and everything to keep yourself alive. The one that truly started this gravy train. For example, the excavator was replaced with the auger (which adds a basic chainsaw-like swing attack for single zombies), and the stun gun was replaced with the hacker (which adds range to its attack along being able to hack electronics). Replace “mixed drink” with “combo weapon” and “heal items” with “weapons” and you have the concept of combo weapons.Īs a little side note, a lot of weapons from Dead Rising 1 were replaced (and buffed) by combo weapons in Dead Rising 2. ![]() Mixed Drinks would require Frank to find two healing items and bring them to a fixed location to make something better with an additional effect. I think there’s some merit to this statement, even if it is actually not true. If the Dead Rising Wiki is to be believed (as the quote lacked citation, and as such has been removed) mixed drinks inspired combo weapons. Dead Rising 1ĭead Rising 1 did not feature combo weapons in any compacity, but it did feature the mechanic that would go on to inspire combo weapons: Mixed Drinks. Note: Although they’ll be referenced, Chop ‘Til You Drop, Case Zero, The Untold Stories of Los Perdios, and DR4 Multiplayer will not be getting their own sections.Ģnd Note: Just skip to the Dead Rising 5 section for a summary of what each of these says if you only care about what the ideas for the next game.Īll that said, Pull up a chair, pull out a beer, and get ready to never look at Combo Weapons quite the same ever again. Here, I’ll discuss the history of combination weapons within the franchise (along with the effects of their presence), dissect some select combo weapons, and then talk about what Dead Rising 5 should (or at least could) do to fix the situation. Combo Weapons, which have become a point of contention for the franchise at this point is one of them this article aims to dive into that. And to be frank, there’s a lot regarding this franchise I’ve been wanting to talk about. As such, as a long time hardcore Dead Rising fan, I wish all of you the best of luck and I’m sorry things had to play out this way.īut with that being said… this reminded me that a fifth (tenth) Dead Rising is on the way. I feel that they were ultimately talented people who were given a project with some bad directors and no time to work on it. First of all, I want to explain at even after Dead Rising 4 I hold no ill will towards the CV team and I wish them all the very best of luck in finding new jobs. So Capcom of Vancouver has just laid off 50 employees, canceled an unnamed project and Dead Rising 5 will be scaled back. ![]()
